Joy, a teacher at Venice High School, sent me this submission of her husband's grandfather, Johnnie McHenry Miles. Born and raised in Texas, he spent most of his life in the military as a cook. The oldest of six children, he was married to his wife, Josephine Neal Miles, for over 50 years (she died in the late 1990's). Joy writes, "They had two children, Herbert and Patrick. Herb is featured in the video with his wife Eleanor and their oldest son Elias (my husband). Incidentally, three generations of Miles' have been married on December 27th--Johnnie & Josephine (1945), Herb & Eleanor (1976), and Elias & Joy (2007). (Just figured out every 31 years!) Johnnie is the product of much interracial mixing (Cherokee, Chinese, Black and White), as is his great granddaughter Madeline, featured in the video."
